City of Luleå presents a world class invention for safe medication

Luleå within the project of OLE II, Our Life as Elderly, has among many important areas worked on various solutions for safe medication in home care.
Luleå will now, with the inventor Linda Jansson, coming autumn run a series of tests of a product, “LINDA”, an interactive medicine cabinet for home care.
“LINDA” will be presented on May 27th at Tunastrands Home for the Elderly in Luleå. The medicine cabinet will during May/ June also be presented within our partner’s organizations in Bodö, Norway and Faroe Islands
We are very glad that we now get the opportunity to test this product for the first time in the world, says Lena Perttu, nurse and responsible project manager.
The product is based on an interaction between the responsible medical staff, home care personnel and the elderly. The cabinet operates through the GSM net.
The cabinet will for instance remind the patient to take their medicine and will also alert responsible medical staff if it is not done in time.
A system like this will undoubtly increase safety around medicine handling for the elderly says, Ann-Kristin Lehmivaara, District nurse and project participant in the project.
We hope and think that this product and solution could be something for the future that will assist more people to stay longer in their own homes even at a very old age concludes a glad Lena Perttu.
OLE II is a transnational project for the development of services and organizations in elderly care. The project is partly financed by EU through NPP, Northern Periphery Programme and will run for 3 years.OLE II has partners from 5 different countries and totally 8 municipalities.
